The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most prominent tech trends to have emerged in recent years. In simple terms, it refers to the fact that while the word “internet” initially referred to the wide-scale networking of computers, today, devices of every size and shape— from cars to kitchen appliances to industrial machinery—are connected and sharing information digitally, on a global scale. For instance, imagine getting a reminder from your refrigerator to buy groceries while on your way home. From being a part of the industrial ecosystem to affecting the core of our personal lives, the journey of IoT has been a swift one. As IoT enters into its next phase of innovation, it is setting the wheels in motion for IoT-based businesses all round the globe.

Taking IoT connectivity to the next level is Soracom, is a global provider of smart IoT connectivity, offering cloud-native wireless service designed specifically for the needs of connected devices.

Founded in 2015, Soracom missioned to accelerate global connection by democratizing the technologies technical innovators needs to create new products, services, and experiences. The company envisioned a more harmonious and prosperous world, made possible by increasing the number and fidelity of connections between all people and things by making IoT connectivity more powerful, more accessible, and more affordable for developers and teams of any size.

To this extent, the company has developed Soracom Air—an IoT SIM card helping technology innovators connect devices over a cellular to a secure, global network, where there’s no limit to how big the business can scale.

Soracom Air provides connectivity in over 150 countries globally through bearer standards ranging from 2G to 4G.For instance, Soracom SIM cards work with multiple carriers within a country and auto-select the best network. If the clients device enters a region with poor coverage, the IoT SIM automatically switches to an available carrier to maximize uptime. “Secure embedding of unique authentication information for connected edge devices is critical to IoT security,” says Kenta Yasukawa, Co-Founder and CTO of Soracom. “Using the Soracom Global Air SIM as the basis for authentication is a straightforward, cost-effective way to manage production and management of devices for IoT deployments at any scale, from prototype to multinational rollout.”

Alongside this, Soracom Arc is a secure link service that allows compatible devices to connect directly to the Soracom platform using any standard internet connection, such as WiFi, Ethernet, or satellite. It enables IoT devices to establish a secure end-to-end connection directly with Soracom, providing authentication and integrity – no matter the configuration of the underlying network connection. In turn, any devices that use Arc to connect to Soracom are able to securely access platform services just as if they were connected using a cellular connection. Similarly, the company has developed Soracom User Console. It is a dashboard designed to provide the ability to manage devices, control costs and keep the connectivity secure. Developers can export a limitless amount of data from the User Console via API, so that they have a complete control over their IoT networks.

The company has developed Soracom Air—an IoT SIM card helping technology innovators connect devices over a cellular to a secure, global network, where there’s no limit to how big the business can scale.

What strikes Soracom a cut above the rest is its team of in-house experts that are well-versed in the crucial areas of an intelligent full stack of IoT technologists, strategists, builders. This expertise, combined with the latest innovation and technology in IoT industry, can help Soracom’s clients in meeting their needs in a cost-efficient and timely manner. Soracom understands the typical challenges IoT industry face with connectivity and developments and as such, Soracom tries to resolve these hurdles proactively for its clients.

Looking forward, Soracom is determined to follow its current trajectory in the IoT cellular connectivity solutions side of the businesses. The company is continually looking at news solutions to expand its digital ecosystem and investing its own solutions and capabilities, to bring more flexibility and efficiency in IoT connectivity.
