TM ONE, Telekom Malaysia: Leading the Malaysian Digital Revolution

Mahmoud Dasser,Chief Marketing & Partnership Officer, TM ONE, Telekom MalaysiaMahmoud Dasser, Chief Marketing & Partnership Officer
The world we live in and the secrets of its future are confined within two modest digits invented centuries ago—zero and one. The revolutionary age that these digits have given birth to has eventually resulted in ever-ready available information that is generated anywhere and anytime. And, it has become imperative for businesses across all industries to collect, store, manage, and analyze all the available data to thrive amidst cut-throat competition, and in here lies a major problem. “Most companies attempt to build their own data centers wherein space, resources, and power constraints come into play. They ultimately succumb to these excessive burdens that drive off their core focus, resulting in massive losses,” elucidates Mahmoud Dasser, Chief Marketing & Partnership Officer, TM ONE, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM).

Malaysian enterprises have long experienced the dire necessity of a trusted localized data center service provider not only due to the operational impediments, but also on accounts of regulatory concerns, connectivity delays due to geographical issues, and efficient disaster recovery (DR) management. As the largest telecom and data center service provider in Malaysia, TM ONE understands that having a robust digital backbone is key to successful digital transformation where TM ONE enthralls its clients with the most efficient method to enable their businesses onto the digital environment and effectively minimizes all challenges in the process, thus giving its clients a total end-to-end customer experience. Malaysian Enterprises are able to leverage on TM ONE’s extensive data centres that not only addresses their issues in terms of costs, flexibility, security, connectivity, and resiliency, but also enables businesses to have all their data localized and focus on their core occupation to accelerate their digital transformation journey with TM ONE’s hybrid cloud model. Offloading a data center’s operational, connectivity, and security obstacles from customers completely, and coupled with the capability to move towards a hybrid cloud model, TM ONE has positioned their twin cores as the strategic DC Exchange for both the Southern and Central regions as it is located in regional hubs that drives Malaysia’s digital transformation journey.

This is in line with Telekom Malaysia Berhad’s (TM) recent alignment of their Perfexe 10 initiative to drive and accelerate convergence and further digitize its operations – strengthening its business direction and strategy of greater digital convergence.

Mahmoud informs that data localization can be done in two ways—hosting client’s data privately in TM ONE’s data centers, or hosting the information in the nodes of global public cloud service providers. However, TM ONE dashes ahead than merely delivering multi-hybrid cloud with managed hosting service to offer a complementary portfolio of cost-effective solutions and services, tailor-made according to the varying necessities of different industries. The company’s end-to-end offerings include hybrid cloud, managed security, managed hosting solutions coupled with DR, colocation, data center infrastructure procurement, and smart-hand and remote-hand services. To top it all, TM ONE system has undergone Threat Vulnerability Risk Assessment (TVRA) according to the Singapore Central bank (MAS) guidelines. The company, thereby, eliminates off all uncertainties related to security, DR, manpower, and business continuity due to geographical barriers, offering services “as close as possible to where the data is consumed,” for both local and foreign clients.

As the Malaysia’s convergence champion, and number one Converged Communications Services Provider, TM ONE is driven by stakeholder value creation in a highly competitive environment, leveraging on an extensive global connectivity, network infrastructure, and collective expertise. With a well-oiled workforce of 28,000 employees that efficiently run TM ONE’s whole digital infrastructure, TM ONE manages its operation of vast network that comprises eleven Tier-2 and Uptime Institute Certified Tier-3, GBI certified Green & ISO 27001 compliant data centres, connected to four cable landing stations, and spanning approximately 200,000 square feet of DC footprint across Malaysia. Also, the company collaborates with global players such as Cisco, IBM, HP, VMware as well as local innovative software companies to serve both domestic and foreign clients efficiently. “What’s unique is that the experiences and the expertise that we gather in managing the largest telecom, cloud, and data center business in Malaysia get transferred to the business of our customers,” notes Mahmoud.

The story of TM ONE turns fascinating as one peeks into the company’s roadmap. TM ONE has been expanding its footprint by building newer high power density data centers that are connected through high-speed data link that can scale in proportion to a client’s cloud operational workload. The company has invested substantially in its two upcoming Twin Core data centers in Johor and Kuala Lumpur that will house the TM’s Iskandar Puteri and Cyberjaya international gateway with low-latency connectivity and TM ONE’s cloud infrastructure, affording “zero-hop internet,” and direct connection to cable landing stations. With plans to further its DR, cloud, and data center capabilities, TM ONE envisions to position Malaysia as the “point of business continuity for businesses in Singapore and Indonesia.”

TM ONE looks forward to continue serving customers with its comprehensive suite of offerings, delivering a seamless digital experience and integrated business solutions to meet their lifestyle and business communication needs - towards making “Life and Business Made Easier for a Better Malaysia”.
