VarioSecure: Safeguarding the Realm of IT

    CIO VendorYoshihiko Inami, CEO
With IT evolving at breakneck speed, security vulnerabilities in hardware, software, and business processes are proliferating as well. Unfortunately, assaults on the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems have become a business model for many individuals, companies, and political groups, and even governments use cyber intrusions as a medium for surveillance, espionage, and destructive attacks. To eradicate the risks faced by the IT sector, VarioSecure (founded in 2001 and originally named Ambisys), offers a proprietary integrated security device, the VarioSecure Router (VSR), which provides reliable monitoring, operation, security, and support to businesses. “We ensure that organizations can freely and safely use information technology to create a better world,” asserts Yoshihiko Inami, CEO, VarioSecure.

Headquartered in the Kanda district of Tokyo, the firm focuses primarily on three areas: dedicated web and mail hosting, consulting, and network security. The firm's flagship Managed Security Service is based on the VSR, a unified threat management appliance consisting of internally engineered software and custom-designed hardware. “We control both hardware and software aspects of our service, allowing us to tailor functionality and performance to meet the security needs of our customers,” states Inami.

When integrated into a client’s network, the VSR provides the controls necessary to manage threats such as network intrusions, malware, and service interruptions.

We work closely with our partners to standardize Internet security measures, providing a 24x7 secure Internet environment while freeing customers from the burdens of setting up, operating, and maintaining security equipment

The firm monitors all traffic passing through the VSR, as well as the VSR itself, ensuring that the system is up-to-date and operating normally. Depending on the hardware and software configuration, the device provides an array of functions such as network firewall, intrusion detection, virtual private networks, SMTP proxy (combined with anti- malware scanning), and HTTP proxy (combined with content filtering and anti-malware scanning). These services, including individually configured VSRs and proprietary monitoring systems, are available on a monthly subscription basis.

In addition, the firm provides ‘integration services’ for large-scale network infrastructure, and develops custom solutions for security, LAN design, server build-out, and IT procurement for small networks. “We work closely with our partners to standardize Internet security measures, providing a 24x7 secure Internet environment while freeing customers from the burdens of setting up, operating, and maintaining security equipment,” says Inami.

The firm has deployed over 6,200 VSR systems at customer locations throughout Japan, providing perimeter security and network management for over 2,000 small and medium-size companies. The custom-designed VSR permits clients to view traffic, security incident or event data, and system performance to guide configuration management and situational awareness. In addition to the VSR, the firm offers two other devices, the Vario Communicate Router (VCR) and Vario Data Protect (VDP), catering to the diverse security needs of its clients.

VarioSecure collaborates with infrastructure and telecommunication companies to provide security services in Japan, and works with business partners in the United States, Canada, India, and Taiwan. “We aim to change the threat landscape enveloping the information technology arena through our advanced technology and tools,” concludes Inami.
