Hashilus: Materializing the Future of Extended Reality Today

For a good few decades after its invention, the computer was seen only as a tool to help improve various operations in the fields of business and scientific research. However, in 1958, William Higinbotham revolutionized the perceptions of the device’s capabilities with his simple yet greatly influential creation, Tennis for Two: the world’s first video game. This recreational innovation laid down the foundation for what was to become a 152 billion dollar industry by the end of 2019 on a global scale. Aside from space exploration and quantum computing, much of today’s drive for technological advancement can be credited to the ever-growing need for enhanced gaming experiences. Especially after the international sensation of ‘Sword Art Online’, a thrilling Manga based on extended reality (XR) gaming, the world was eager to experience what it read in real life. Satisfying this demand with the latest, most immersive technologies is Hashilus, a large virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (VR, AR, MR) solution provider in the APAC region.

Based out of Tokyo, Japan, Hashilus is at the heart of XR technology innovation, dedicated to creating an environment of overwhelming realism through a wide range of futuristic products. “We develop modern VR, AR, and MR technologies, as well as specialized techniques that deceive the five senses to expand the spaces we live in and experience the future,” expresses Akihiro Ando, President and Representative Director of Hashilus. To that end, the company focuses on the large-scale production of high-quality XR-based content that serve enterprise-wide purposes for international organizations like Sony Music Entertainment (member of Sony Group), as well as large scale facilities such as the Sunshine Sky Scraper in Tokyo, Japan.
Hashilus’ products do not only prove resourceful for entertainment and mass media-oriented enterprises but also possess multi-faceted capabilities to augment the everyday operations of academic institutions, telecommunication companies, and manufacturers. Hashilus provides outsourced production, sales, and rentals of XR content, alongside consulting and outreach services. Additionally, having produced 47 different types of XR products and 144 contents (as of April, 2020) to support their innovations, the company has won several laurels, including the Award for Excellence in the Game Design Category in the “CEDEC AWARDS 2018”.

Hashilus creates a unique sense of reality through its devices, guided by intriguing management team, comprising magicians. With their life-long experience of using inventive tricks and techniques to alter the audience’s perception, they have given XR a new level of realism. With the help of efficient hardware and software engineering, Hashilus brings to the market integrated and organic XR products that truly simulate life-like virtual environments. “XR is an entirely new medium, but at the same time it’s just a tool. In order to use it effectively, one requires a wealth of know-how and ideas that are not tied to the context of existing video media and games,” explains Ando.

To further elucidate on the company’s capabilities, Ando shares the story of how Hashilus’ expertise helped overcome the challenge of managing compatibility between scene changes and free-roaming interactions. The company solved this problem by incorporating free roaming on the ‘Solomon Carpet,’ alongside other innovative way by which players can move from free-roam scene to free-roam scene by ride device ‘Gold Rush’. The company also developed ‘Kickway’: a ride device that can be used individually in a VR environment to personalize scene changes. This device also eliminates bad space efficiency and VR sickness. Furthermore, it also enables players to get on/off the device and move around the VR free roam field personally.

Such intuitive features provided by the company’s revolutionary products pave the path for a reality-altering future for gamers and the entertainment industry as a whole. Moving forward, the company intends to delve deeper into academic and industrial fields to transform XR into a complete, multi-pronged solution that improves various organizational workflows. Going forward, Hashilus will act as a bridge to connect consumers to XR technology effectively, and affordably, on a global scale.
