An introduction to Google Lens and its many benefits

By Apac Ciooutlook | Monday, December 03, 2018
    Tweet

Technology giant Google has introduced several cutting-edge applications in the recent past. In 2017, the renowned firm introduced the Google Lens, an application designed to extract useful information by analyzing visuals.

However, the first formal announcement marked the launch of a prototype that probably didn’t meet the expectations of the tech-savvy to the fullest. Since its release, many users have hailed the application as an excellent implementation of AI and impersonation of a human mind.

A still of an object such as a book, captured by the Google Lens application, isn’t just accurately identified but users are rendered suggestions of the nearest bookstores and events such as book launches scheduled to occur in the next fortnight in their respective cities. This ability alone speaks volumes about the potential of this one-of-its-kind invention. Another noteworthy capability of this application is to automatically connect to a wi-fi router merely based on a click of the SSID sticker behind the appliance, without demanding a string of actions from a phone.

Google Lens has been utilized by several users to look for exotic cuisines, customer reviews and places to visit in their vicinity. According to a famous tweet penned by team Google on Twitter that went viral, the installation of Google Lens on the phone will enhance the capabilities of the camera and the device too, in general. Apart from merely enabling users to click pictures, which will be stored in a phone, a smartphone camera will also suggest a string of actions to the user based on the image captured.

Adoption of the Google Lens application provides the users a wide range of benefits which include smart text selection, smart text search, as well as clothing and décor search.

Many technology enthusiasts have drawn parallels between the Google Lens and Samsung’s product Bixby Vision. However, the competitor’s product doesn’t seem to have dampened the popularity of Google Lens and it continues to be popular since its release in 2017. The application can be downloaded quite easily from Google Play, the online virtual store.
