Why does a business need quality control mechanisms in supply chain management?

By Apac CIO Outlook | Monday, December 03, 2018
    Tweet

Role of TQM in supply chain managementSupply chain management of a company largely affects its products’ quality and overall profitability. Therefore, quality control in the supply chain is imperative for them to stay ahead of the competitors and reduce operational costs. The absence of quality control mechanisms in the supply chains leads to tremendous losses.

If raw materials are defective, it can make the entire production line ineffective and increase the defect rates in finished products. When the quality control of the supply chain is poor, products are liable to damage before their guarantee period expires. Better control over production inputs reduces such damages.

Companies that come across a massive amount of defects and waste produced during manufacturing often conduct regular inspections to check the quality of the products. The process of quality control and audits undertaken by the suppliers is critical for preventing constant inspections in the production line.

Harmful materials are used for various purposes in manufacturing processes, especially in industries like defense. Quality control plays a significant role in protecting industrial workers from being exposed to toxic materials. The Department of Transportation imposes important regulations for transporting hazardous substances; not abiding by these rules often leads to penalties.

Therefore, it is necessary for all the internal and external stakeholders to handle the toxic materials in the supply chain more efficiently and effectively.
