SD Global Technologies: Powering Smart Hospitals of the Future

Sanjay Das, Founder & Managing Director
The future of healthcare in every way is about invoking a smart hospital ecosystem that redefines care delivery. Today, signs of digitization are present in most hospital environments. While cloud and IoT are working inconspicuously to integrate medical systems that were once non-interoperable, cutting-edge dashboards and state-of-the-art mobile applications are contributing to seamless healthcare management. However, on the flipside, there is also a lot of confusion impeding this changeover to smart hospitals as it requires a competent strategy, well-grounded understanding of patient needs and clinical workflows, knowledge of the latest technologies, and strong execution capabilities.

Organizations looking to implement intelligent and futuristic hospital systems need to look no further as SD Global Technologies, a specialized healthcare IT organization leverages IoT, data analytics, cloud, AI, and mobility to revolutionize specialty and corporate hospitals as well as government medical colleges. With a special focus on the Malaysian healthcare ecosystem, SD Global Technologies is uniquely positioned to offer readymade frameworks, compelling technology solutions, and a streamlined vision to advocate progress in the direction of smart hospitals. “We help hospitals transform into smart hospitals, and our ultimate goal is to optimize costs, improve productivity, and enhance the overall patient care,” states Sanjay Das, Founder and Managing Director of SD Global Technologies. A report by Frost & Sullivan reveals that by 2018, Singapore and Malaysia will account for 3,200 smart hospital beds. In such a scenario, SD Global with its plethora of software services, expert team, and deep understanding of the Malaysian market emerges as the champion solution provider.

    Driving Integrated Healthcare

To begin with, what sets SD Global a cut above other solution providers is their end-to-end flagship solution, MedCare, which comprises 67 modules and 63 core processes for financial, administrative, clinical, patient management, and much more. “MedCare offers impeccable value to businesses by virtue of following six synergy pillars,” explains Siddhartha Mishra, CEO at SD Global Technologies. Firstly, it is a single window healthcare solution with a wide variety of products. The portfolio of healthcare products is future-proof and scalable with the demands of businesses, and it works seamlessly using the latest software technologies. The company always lays out various options for their clients to help them achieve maximum return on investment and follows a partnership approach for value-added business outcomes. Above all, the products are tried, tested, and reliable and thousands of healthcare practitioners and professionals in more than 15 countries have significantly benefitted from using MedCare.

The core modules in MedCare encompass patient management (both outpatient and inpatient), admin, and doctor management. The solution takes care of all appointments, patient registration, and emergency admissions. To assist nursing staff, MedCare simplifies several everyday activities such as monitoring medication orders or compiling the discharge list of patients.

We help hospitals transform into smart hospitals, and our ultimate goal is to optimize costs, improve productivity, and enhance the overall patient care

Doctors have the advantage of easily keeping track of appointments, pending surgeries, or patient reports. MedCare streamlines all patient information, from visit details and medical history to case sheet data. They have also developed mobile applications for patient scheduling and easy access to medical records for both patients and doctors.

Clinical data and billing management are two other essential areas that the solution takes complete charge of. It manages self, insurance, and corporate billing requirements and automates the entire process of bill generation, settlements, discounts, or invoice management. In addition, a cloud-based solution, Clinicare enables HIMSS Stage 6 deployment for any hospital, reduces the entire paperwork for medical records, and automates order to billing cycle.

To elucidate further, MedCare played a major role at KPJ, a specialist hospital located in Pahang, by connecting all their disparate applications like HITS and Lablink, which were working in silos. “After a thorough project study, the SD Global Tech team designed and developed an integrated system and the end result was very encouraging,” states Mishra. The client went on to experience improved efficiency through reduced paperwork and saw a seamless patient flow.

    Making Futuristic Hospitals a Reality

A one-stop solution in the truest sense, MedCare's core value proposition goes beyond the clinical realm of a hospital and finds a way in inventory management as well. With MedCare, hospital administrators can track purchase orders, counter sale, and excel at stock maintenance for both store and pharmacy demands. For the optimum benefit of the management head in a hospital, MedCare also features a BI and analytics module. SD Global's BICare, a business analytics platform streams data from all the different data sources or applications present inside the hospital and uses the data to produce meaningful management information system (MIS) and predictive reports for the stakeholders. The actionable insights and business metrics are delivered through user-friendly and web-based dashboards in real time and facilitate quick decision-making.

For the physicians and caregivers, MedCare also features Clinicare, which is an iPad-based EMR. It enables HIMSS Stage 6 deployment for any of the hospitals. It reduces the entire paperwork for medical records and automates order to billing cycle.

The solution also includes a series of clinical modules that offer better control and centralized access for in vitro fertilization, diabetes risk assessment, comprehensive ophthalmology, and oncology assessment. A shining example of MedCare's efficacy came to light when it was deployed in the ophthalmology department at the THONEH Eye Hospital based in Malaysia. The solution was not only used by all clinicians for computerized physician order entry (CPOE) and case sheets but also in end-to-end accounting.
    Siddhartha Mishra, CEO
Ultimately, the department radically improved its clinical documentation and CPOE related efficiencies. The list of specialty areas where MedCare can be used is truly exhaustive and it is also the solution of choice in dental, orthopedics, cardiology, neurology, and the pediatrics departments.

If that wasn't all, MedCare is the answer when it comes to handling supplementary tasks in a hospital such as blood bank, housekeeping, asset and equipment, ambulance, and complaint management. For best-in-class output, underlying all these services are several add-on modules such as picture archiving and communication system (PACS), revenue cycle management (RCM) systems, Tally, and mobile device management solutions. “All these solutions are an integral part of the hospital operations and any missing pieces would not transform the digital care delivery for patients,” says Mishra.

"Thousands of healthcare practitioners and professionals in more than 15 countries have benefitted greatly from using medcare"

Underpinning SD Global's compelling solution suite is a team of healthcare experts that infuse unparalleled energy into the company. “We have a multi-culture environment and this unique diversity allows us to interact with hospital stakeholders at various levels in the language of their choice,” says Mishra with pride. Instead of suggesting any out-of-the-box solutions, the team at SD Global focuses on developing turnkey and customized solutions that solve the exact problem areas of a particular hospital alongside efficient post-sales support services. The solution is completely scalable to suit the needs of small nursing homes as well as multi-specialty, multi-location hospital chains and effortlessly integrates with other applications. A robust integration framework, CareAIM based on the RabbitMQ integration engine, enables the system to connect to third-party applications for seamless data sharing. SD Global uses CareAIM in all its deployments to nurture the old legacy systems and keep them connected with future technologies.

Hands down, SD Global's thorough and vast range of healthcare software products and unrivaled domain expertise make them second to none in the healthcare IT space, and the company will continue to lead Malaysia’s smart hospital revolution in the days ahead.

Recently, SD Global has got into an agreement with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to design and implement hospital information system for there new upcoming 500 bedded hospital “HUMS.” HUMS has the vision to develop the varsity’s first hospital using the SMART University feature and SD Global’s cutting-edge technology frameworks are well positioned to support that vision. Similarly, SD Global is also working with Hospita Kanak-Kanak PERMATA UKM with the digitization of their hospital. Projects like these are important parts of the company’s future strategy to build a Smart Hospital ecosystem in Malaysia.
