Southern Cross Austereo: A Pioneer in Entertainment Media Solutions

Grant Blackley,CEO & MD, southern cross austereoGrant Blackley, CEO & MD
The sources of entertainment have evolved over the years, giving new meaning to the way audiences are entertained. Businesses are now employing the newest possible mediums including digital platforms to reach out to audiences. Headquartered in South Melbourne, Australia, Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has been doing it exceptionally well with its regional free-to-air TV networks, national radio networks, online, mobile and unique one off events. One of Australia’s most diverse media brands, SCA operates 80 radio stations and 21 commercial television licenses nationally. With competency in content creation, integrated multi-platform campaigns, strategy, research and experiential events; SCA holds the potential to reach over 95 percent of Australians each week with regional free-to-air TV networks and national radio networks. For the online forum, SCA’s digital division runs around 85 websites in the country alongside the development of microsites, mobile apps, online video, and social media campaigns for clients.

The “Hit Network” and “Triple M” channels of SCA proffer radio connectivity in Australia with millions of listeners tuning each week. A survey by Xtra Insights reports that SCA has connected with around 1.49 million audiences across regional radio markets in Australia. Marking its present over 30 regional sub-markets, SCA brings forth all the local commercial news and major sporting events to its large audience base. In the urban sector, SCA engages nearly 5 million Australians per week.
The company’s combined radio and TV platform reach around 8.34 million people thus connecting with around 40 percent of Australians. SCA’s Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST) service enables the remote Australians to connect with radio and television channels of the media company.

Another key offering by SCA remains its web-based radio software solution “Frequency” which enables the clients to identify the core marketing changes taking place. Users can experience enriched sound quality with the “DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting)+ Digital Radio” station without paying any subscription fees. DAB+ Digital Radio has been incorporated in a wide range of vehicles in Australia to buttress in-car listening features. Consequently, the digital radio user base has been growing rapidly reaching over 3.6 million people across the five metro capital cities.

Holding a key place in broadcasting and conferring radio channels in Australia, SCA provides a one-stop solution for enterprises to launch and merchandize their products. Recently, SCA collaborated with Super cars Australia to popularize this sport with Triple M Network throughout the nation. “This partnership allows Triple M to serve its audience with pre-race interviews, live updates throughout each race and review with the best experts in the business. SCA will work with Super cars to help enhance existing and entice new commercial partnerships, as well as promote and drive awareness and attendance at major entertainment events including Bathurst, the Gold Coast, Towns ville, and Newcastle,” says Grant Blackley, CEO & MD, Southern Cross Austereo (SCA). Going forward, SCA envisions developing and producing world-class campaigns to engage and entertain its audience and investors. It also seeks to strengthen “The Studio”, an open-source platform for businesses to brand and promote their products.
