Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made a gradual entry into all walks of our lives and is now also beginning to impact the education sector. Right from automating and speeding up the administrative process as well as the grading system to providing support outside the classroom, AI has the potential to revamp the education sector on all fronts. Machines have been automatically grading the multiple-choice exams for quite some time now and will soon also assist in the assessment of written tests, to eventually replace humans in all the evaluation processes. This will enable teachers to focus more on lesson-planning and solving students’ problems on an individual basis.
Furthermore, using chatbots and interactive website content to address queries related to admissions can simplify the process for both the students as well as the administrators. For students in need of additional educational support, many intelligent tutoring tools and systems have been developed. Carnegie Learning, for instance, leverages students’ learning data to deliver feedbacks and specific details about their difficulties directly. In addition, AI-based assessment software can assist teachers in pinpoint areas where students struggle the most, thus facilitating teachers to lay emphasis on these key areas and drive the progress of their students.
Most importantly, AI will be responsible for piloting the transformation of the education system from one-size-fits-all to providing customization options based on the interests and inclination of the students. Whether in MOOCs, online classes, or blended classes, students will immensely profit from the customized and individualized way of learning.
