Keep the Staff Engaged while Working Remotely to Maintain Productivity

By Apac CIO Outlook | Friday, July 31, 2020

By establishing excellent communication terms, with the help of different means of technology, an employer or a team lead can support their staff or co-workers to perform better during the sudden change of process and environment.

Fremont, CA: Motivation is the fuel that runs good businesses. It drives the workers to get the job done. During times like the present, when the crisis is overflowing, it is essential to keep the employees motivated. Employers need to look for creative ways to keep the employees engaged and productive within budget and help them get through the pandemic.

Ever since COVID-19 has pushed the organizations to hastily implement remote working en masse, many managers and employees are working from home for the first time. This creates a new struggle to overcome for the employees as it may be hard to adjust to the new normal.

The common threat remote working presents is a blow to productivity, fuelled by the implications of being in social isolation and causing an imbalance in work-life dynamics. Managers and employers need to communicate effectively with their employees or co-workers to manage time and maintain high productivity. Here are some tips on how leaders can motivate their remote workforce with better communication.

Since communication is the most critical aspect to nail while executing managerial duties for a remote workforce, the leaders should know how to achieve its full benefits. Establishing proper communication with the employees, the foundation for all collaborations, strategy, and success is achieved. It sets straight the organizational priorities and refines the agenda of the future. Beyond this, it helps the workers feel connected to the workplace rather than being isolated for good.

Team leaders, primarily, should aim to paint a clear picture as possible, to ensure that their team members are completely aware of what their job is and how it is done. It should be made sure that they understand:

    • The objectives set for the short and long term.
    • What projects need attention, alongside with their deadlines.
    • At what times during the working hours, they need to be available to prioritize other private life commitments, such as family, groceries, etc.
    • Who to contact in case they need any support, both work or other technical difficulties.

Ultimately, it’s paramount for the team leads to ensure a strong communication strategy that doesn’t merely succumb to the position of a bulletin board. They need to continually involve the employees in these trying times. Become more approachable and stay open. Be clear about the level of support available to them while the employees are working from home. If the employees are left feeling unsupported, they are more likely to become overwhelmed, and this will reflect negatively in the work they perform.
