According to the most recent estimate, global parcel volume exceeded 100 billion parcels in 2019, exceeding 103 billion. On average, over 2.5 million parcels were sent per day in Australia; that's over 106 thousand per hour, 1,777 per minute, or 30 per second.

Fremont, CA: Although 2020 will be remembered as a year of disruption and transition for both businesses and customers, some of the new trends will be here to stay.

The E-Commerce Hype is Just Getting Started

If customers increasingly buy online, the upward trend in e-commerce will continue, pushing retailers to change their operations and shift into e-tailing environments. Smaller, home-based e-commerce companies are thriving, and they'll continue to invest in solutions that help them fulfill consumer demands.

The Pitney Bowes Parcel Shipping Index has been monitoring the growth of parcel shipping around the world, as well as in Australia, since 2013.

According to the most recent estimate, global parcel volume exceeded 100 billion parcels in 2019, exceeding 103 billion. On average, over 2.5 million parcels were sent per day in Australia; that's over 106 thousand per hour, 1,777 per minute, or 30 per second.

Parcel shipping technologies will continue to evolve in order to meet the changing needs of customers. One important trend that is gaining traction is the development of technology that enables consumers to compare various carrier choices, as well as pricing and delivery times. Order management features, greater versatility, and greater visibility are all advantages that can help with cost management and improving the customer experience.

Increasing Investment in Technologies that Empower Remote Working

To keep workers involved and collaborate during the COVID-19 pandemic response, companies gradually provided more flexibility, remote work opportunities, and more regular contact.

For many businesses, this meant evaluating mission-critical processes and figuring out how to allow workers to function productively regardless of venue. Companies that conduct business by sending and receiving packages must use safe and reliable parcel shipping methods to protect their staff as well as their company's information and properties.

Employees will have to partake in more flexible working activities in the potential working world, which will most likely be a combination between office-based and remote working. As companies invest more in encouraging their workers to operate at the same level of efficiency wherever they are, solutions that make sending mail from home and the office easier will become more common.
